Herman Sourdough Starter

This is a recipe for a sweet sourdough starter known as Herman
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 5 th & 10th day 1/2 cup sugar white sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup milk

Forgotten Cookies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 egg whites, beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- or mint-flavored chips, if preferred
- 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Strawberry Angel Cookies

Yummy bits of fruit in strawberry preserves add sweet flavor to this easy recipe based on boxed angel food cake mix
- Crisco® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
- 1 (16-ounce) package Pillsbury® Angel Food Cake Mix
- 3/4 cup Smucker's® Strawberry Sugar Free Preserves
- OR 3/4 cup Smucker's® Low Sugar™ Reduced Sugar Strawberry Preserves
- 3 tablespoons mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
HERMAN COFFEE CAKE

Use the remaining 2 cups or so of the starter and add: 2 eggs 1 c
- On the first day you get Herman you must feed him 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of sugar.
- Feed him again on the 5th day, bake him on the 10th day.
- Keep Herman in the refrigerator in a large covered glass bowl. Stir him once each day with a wooden spoon.
- On baking day measure out 1 cup of starter for yourself and 1 cup for a friend. This becomes the first day again.
Cancer-Fighting Spicy Pumpkin Soup

The secret ingredient in this soup is antioxidant-rich pumpkin
- 2 cans of pumpkin
- 4 shallots
- 2 tsp unsalted butter
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp ginger
- 2 tbsp curry spice mix
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp chili sauce
- 3 1/2 cups water
- 2 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
- 1 can unsweetened coconut milk
Pumpkin Spice Latte

Combine coffee, half-n-half, pumpkin, sugar and pumpkin pie spice in a small saucepan
- Garnish:
- 1 cup double strength brewed coffee
- 1/3 cup half-n-half
- 2 Tbsp. pumpkin puree
- 2 Tbsp. sugar in the raw
- 1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
- whipped cream
- pumpkin pie spice
- cinnamon stick

- Makes 2 dozen cookies
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 7.5 ounces (half of a 15-oz can) chickpeas
- 1/4 cup soy eggnog (or light eggnog)
- 2 tbsp agave nectar
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
