French Onion Beef Au Jus

Ingredients

  • 1 (3 1/2 lb.) fresh beef brisket
  • 1/2 c. soy sauce
  • 2 T. oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsp. browning sauce
  • 1 tsp. Beau Monde seasoning
  • 1 pkg. onion soup mix
  • 5 c. water
  • French rolls
  • Swiss cheese, grated
  • 2 lg. sweet onions, sliced
  • 1/4 c. butter

Step 1

Place beef in 4-quart Dutch oven. Combine in blender, the soy sauce, oil, garlic, browning sauce, seasoning, soup mix and water Pour over beef and cover lightly. Bake at 350° for 2 hours.
Meanwhile, saute onions in butter. Add to beef and continue cooking 1 hour. Remove brisket and cool 20 minutes. Add 2 cups water Slice and put on rolls; top with cheese and broil until cheese melts. Serve with extra au jus for dipping.
