Ingredients

  • 1 Cabbage (medium size)
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, pressed
  • 1 Onion Medium, chopped
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper, chopped
  • 3/4 Lb Ground Beef
  • 1 6oz Can Tomato Paste
  • 1 8oz Can Tomato Sauce
  • 1 Tsp Dried Oregano
  • 2 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Pepper
  • 1 Cup Mozzarella Cheese, grated
  • 1/2 Cup Ricotta or Cottage Cheese
  • 1/2 Cup Parmesan Cheese

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Wash cabbage remove tough outer leaves. Cut in half, carefully peel off leaves, try to keep intact. these serve as noodles. Arrange the individual leaves on a steamer and steam until tender, 3-5 minutes, set aside.
Put olive oil in large skillet over medium heat, Saute onions, garlic & green bell peppers until onion is translucent, Add ground beef and brown thoroughly, Drain off fat and water. Add tomato sauce & paste and all seasoning to meat mixture.
Coat a 9"x13" baking dish with olive oil, line the bottom with a layer of cabbage leaves, Top with meat mixture, then layer of mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese. Repeat a second layer, Top with Parmesan cheese.
Bake Covered for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake another 5-10 minutes.
