- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 10 tablespoons (1 1/4 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces and chilled
- 5 tablespoons vegetable shortening, cut into 1/2-inch pieces and chilled
- 3/4 cups cold buttermilk
- Apple Dumplings
- 6 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 3 tablespoons golden raisins, chopped
- 4 Golden Delicious apples (see note)
- 2 egg whites, lightly beaten

- Dough
- 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/8 + 1/16 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/8 + 1/16 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces and chilled

- 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 onion)
- 1 celery rib with leaves, chopped (1/2 rib)
- 1 garlic clove, minced (Small clove)
- 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) stewed tomatoes, cut up (1/2 Can)
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce (1/2 Can)
- 1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules (1/2 tsp)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (1 1/2 tsp)
- 2 tablespoons cold water (1 Tbsp)

Soak the cashews in water for 2-8 hours before starting (to soften)

- 1/4 cup raw cashews, soaked
- 3-4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (I used 4 tbsp)
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill (see note)
- 1/2 small garlic clove
- 1/4 + 1/8 teaspoon fine grain sea salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
