Fried Green Tomatoes
By á-41662
A great Southern dish that is light and tasty.
I always add more ingredients ( except milk), to keep from re adding the crumbs and corn meal. The results are the same. The picture is of the tomatoes and fried patty pan squash.
Ingredients
- 3 large green tomatoes. (Not too ripe)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup buttermilk corn meal( gives it that flavorful southern taste)
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs, the kind in a can
- 2 tbs pepper
- 2 tbs salt
- 2 tbs Mrs.Dash table blend
- 1 cup corn oil
- you can always double the dry ingredients as I do, to keep from running out.

Preparation
Step 1
Heat oil in large frying pan on medium heat
Rinse/dry
Slice tomatoes 1/2 inch thick.
Mix together crumbs and corn meal
Cover each slice thoroughly in flour
Dip in milk.
Dredge through corn meal/crumbs mixture.
Place tomatoes( no more than 3 at a time) into pan, sprinkle salt/pepper/Mrs. dash lightly over the tomatoes, saving some for the other side, and for the remaining tomatoes.
Cook no more than 4 minutes on each side, or when it is crispy at sight, than flip over , cook for remaining time, or until desired softness is acquired.
Drain on paper towels.
My tomatoes were done within 10 minutes.
