Ingredients
- 2 lbs. beef cubed into 1-inch pieces
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 2 cups water
- 1 Tbsp. worchestershire sauce
- 1 clove minced garlic
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 medium onion sliced
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. paprika
- Dash of ground cloves or allspice
- 3 large carrots sliced
- 3 ribs celery chopped
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch + 1/4 cup cold water (to thicken gravy)

Step 1
Brown meat in hot oil. Add remaining ingredients, except carrots and celery. Cover and simmer 1+1/2 hours. Remove bay leaves. Add carrots and celery. cover and cook another 45 minutes, until vegetables are tender. To thicken gravy, remove 2 cups of hot liquid. Using a separate bowl, combine cornstarch mixture with hot liquid and return to pot, stir and cook until bubbly and thick.
