Caramelized Onion Dip (Ruth's)

Ingredients

  • l large yellow onion
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground pepper
  • 4 oz. cream cheese (room temp)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

Step 1

Cut onion in half and slice thinly. Heat oil and butter in large frying pan over medium heat Add onion, cayenne, salt and pepper and saute 10 minutes. Reduce heat to medium/low and cook stirring occasionally for 20 minutes more until onions are browned and caramelized. Beat cheese, sour cream and mayonnaise until smooth. Stir in onions and mix well.
Serve with chips or crackers…..I usually serve with crackers.
