Perfect Pulled Pork for the Slow Cooker

Serves 16-20. Do not lift lid until last 30 minutes to check doneness. Otherwise you lose heat and add 20 minutes to the cooking time.

  • 1 1/2 t smoked paprika
  • 2 t black pepper
  • 1 t cayenne pepper
  • 1 t dried thyme
  • 1 t garlic powder
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 5 lbs boneless pork shoulder
  • 1 cup water
  • Buns

Preparation

Step 1

Combine seasonings in small bowl and rub evenly over pork. Place meat in 6 qt. slow cooker. Add water. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours, until pork is very tender. Remove pork to large cutting board and let rest for 10-15 minutes. Pull, slice, or chop. Serve on buns with barbecue sauce.
