Lower-Sugar Sweet & Sour Sauce

This is a delicious lower-sugar sweet and sour sauce that goes well with chicken, shrimp, or tofu, and fluffy, whole grain brown rice. Each item can be adjusted to make this recipe sugar-free or the level of sugar and sweetness that you desire. This recipe also makes a great dip for egg rolls and it is so much healthier for you because you know exactly what you are putting into this sauce!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Splenda
- 1/3 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/2 cup ketchup, regular, lower sugar, or sugar-free
- 3/4 cup diet ginger ale
- 3/4 cup or small can pineapple chunks with juice
- 1 teaspoon Grenadine, optional
- 1 dash of soy sauce
- 1 or 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup water until smooth

Step 1
In a non-stick pan pour in the Splenda then add the wine vinegar, ketchup, ginger ale, pineapple, Grenadine, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix all ingredients with a whisk until everything is blended, on a medium heat bring the ingredients to a soft boil. Once everything is beginning to boil add the corn starch until you reach your desired thickness.
All ingredients can be increased or decreased to suit your own sweetness or sour.
