Avocado and Radish Canapes with Smoked Salt

Combine the avocado and lemon juice in a small bowl, sprinkle with pepper, and mash roughly with a fork
- 1 small ripe avocado (or half of a large one)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Freshly ground pepper
- 20 slices from a ficelle (a slim baguette) or a baguette
- Smoked salt (substitute fleur de sel, kosher salt, or salt + smoked paprika)
- 10 pink radishes, trimmed and halved
Ultimate Flourless Chocolate Cake

Ultimate. Seriously. This is so good
- 8 large eggs, cold
- 1 lb. bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch chunks
- 1/4 cup strong coffee or liqueur (optional)
- Confectioner's sugar or cocoa powder for decoration
Liven Yourself Up! Lentil Soup

I saw this soup on one of my favorite blogs--101 Cookbooks--it looks like a great, warm, winter soup that is health...
- For the Saffron Yogurt:
- 2 cups black beluga lentils (or green French lentils), picked over and rinsed
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon fine-grain sea salt
- 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
- 2 cup water
- 3 cups of a big leafy green (chard, kale, etc), rinsed well, deveined, finely chopped
- 1 pinch of saffron (30-40 threads)
- 1 tablespoon boiling water
- 2 pinches of salt
- 1/2 cup 2% Greek Yogurt
Adam's Asian Peanut Butter Sandwich

This sandwich sounds strange in all the right ways
- 2 slices sandwich bread
- 1 Tbsp peanut butter
- 1/2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 splash rice wine vinegar
- 1 splash lime juice
- 1/8 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp sesame seeds
- 1/8 cup green onions (give or take)
- 1/4 cup loosely chopped cilantro
Ssäm Bar Brussels Sprouts

Deep-fried Brussels sprouts are a popular side dish at Ssäm Bar
- For brussels sprouts:
- 2 pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved lengthwise
- 3 tablespoons canola oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- For dressing:
- 1/4 cup Asian fish sauce (preferably Tiparos brand)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons finely chopped mint
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro stems
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 (1 1/2-inch) fresh red Thai chile, thinly sliced crosswise, including seeds
- For puffed rice:
- 1/2 cup crisp rice cereal such as Rice Krispies
- 1/4 teaspoon canola oil
- 1/4 teaspoon shichimi togarashi (Japanese seven-spice blend)
- Garnish: cilantro sprigs; torn mint leaves; chopped scallions
Moravian Icebox Cake

This is a variation I thought up for the traditional Nabisco Chocolate Wafer Icebox Cake
- 3 cups heavy cream
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 packs (usually come in large tubes) Moravian cookies
Savory Tomato Bread Pudding

In a saute pan, saute onion and garlic until translucent
- 1/2 large red onion, brunoise
- 5 cloves garlic, sliced
- 1 quart heavy whipping cream
- 3/4 quart milk
- 1 1/2 cans tomato paste (6oz cans)
- 10 whole eggs
- 3 loaves baguette, diced small, with crust
- 1 bunch basil, chopped
- 1/2 bunch thyme, chopped
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1 bottle balsamic vinegar

- 1 yellow bell pepper
- 1 green bell pepper
- 12 cherry tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 1/2 pounds sea scallops

- 5 cups cubed (1-inch) day-old baguette or crusty bread
