Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening

Preparation

Step 1

1. In a large bowl, cream together the vegetable shortening and butter.
2. Add the vanilla extract.
3. Alternate adding the heavy cream and powdered sugar.
4. Refrigerate after use.

Variation:
Lemon Frosting - Add 2 tsp of lemon juice and 1 tsp of fresh grated lemon zest to the basic recipe.
Strawberry Frosting - Add 2 tsp of strawberry syrup to the frosting recipe.
Add 2 tsp of orange juice and 1 tsp of fresh grated orange zest to the basic recipe.

*Strawberry syrup
Place 1/2 pint of strawberries, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and 1/4 cup of sugar in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil on your stove. Push through a strainer to separate the seeds.
