Barb's Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients
- Icing:
- 1/2 cup Crisco
- 1 1/2 cups White Sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 oz Red Food Coloring
- 2 beaten Eggs
- 2 cups Flour
- 1 tsp Cocoa
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 1 tsp Soda
- 1 tb Vinegar
- 1/4 cup Flour
- 1 cup Milk.
- 1 stick Oleo
- 1/2 cup Crisco
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 tsp Orange Extract
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Coconut (optional)

Preparation
Step 1
Cream together:
Crisco, White Sugar, Vanilla, Red Food Coloring and eggs.
Sift 3 times:
Flour and Cocoa
Add to the first mixture alternately with 1 cup Buttermilk.
Fold in 1 tsp Soda dissolved in 1 tb Vinegar.
Bake in two nine inch pans at 375 degree oven for 1/2 hr.
Icing:
Cook to pudding stage 1/4 cup Flour and 1 cup Milk. Cool and chill.
Cream:
1 stick Oleo
1/2 cup Crisco
1 cup Powdered Sugar
Add:
Pudding and beat with mixer until it stands in peaks.
Add:
Vanilla Extract
Orange Extract
Spread between layers & on top and sides.
May add Coconut if desired.
