Preparation
Step 1
brown your meat in a pan until fully cooked, try to make the meat crumbles as small as possible, and set aside.
While your meat is cooking, you can go ahead and grate your onion into a small mixing bowl. You must grate it! No shortcuts here or you won’t get the same flavor in your sauce. You need the onion juice.
Now that the onion is grated into a bowl, go ahead and add your ketchup, mayo, relish, and sprinkle salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until everything is incorporated.
Go ahead and put your ground meat into an oven safe casserole dish, and pour your dressing all over and give it a good mix.
When it’s mixed and spread evenly in the dish, add your shredded cheddar cheese.
Place the dish onto a baking sheet, and pop it under your broiler for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly brown.
Serve it with crusty french bread and any and all hamburger fixings you can think of. Just make sure everything is chopped small so people can easily build their mini open faced burgers.
