  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt (Brent likes SEA SALT)
  • 1 1/2 TB. baking powder (1 TB. plus 11/2 tsp.)
  • 3 TB. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. OREGANO or BASIL or CRACKED ROSEMARY (optional)
  • 1 12-oz. bottle beer, room temperature (Brent likes Stroh's which can be hard to find-Pabst Blue Ribbon or Miller work well)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°.

In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and HERBS if using. Add the beer and stir until blended.

Put in a lightly-greased loaf pan (5x9 or 41/2x81/2 both work) and bake for 1 hour.

Combine the butter and GARLIC (if using). Remove the bread from the oven. Pour the butter mixture over the top.

Allow the bread to rest in the pan for 10-15 minutes before removing. The bread is easier to slice when cool, but it tastes too good to wait. The decision is yours.
