Panera Sugar Cookies

A short bread frosted sugar cookie that is perfect any time of the year! You can roll and cut out shapes, or just cut into rectangles for a classic short bread cookie.
Ingredients
- FROSTING:
- 8 ounces (2 sticks) butter, room temperature
- 2 cups cake flour
- 3/4 cup confectioners sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 5 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Food coloring of your choice
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Combine all ingredients; use hands to knead until ingredients are blended. Roll out the dough with a little flour. Cut into shapes, or you can cut into rectangles, like shortbread.
Place on cookie sheet and bake for about 20 minutes. Check after 15 minutes. They are done when they are lightly browned. Don't over bake.
You can frost with a basic sugar frosting. Combine the sugar, shortening milk and vanilla with a mixer. Separate the frosting into multiple bowls and add food coloring of your choice.
Decorate your cookies!
