Paula's Easy Christmas Sugar Cookie

These yummy sugar cookies are so simple and easy to make. The kiddos enjoy helping to make them... and love eating them! Happy Holidays!
Ingredients
- COOKIE:
- 2 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour + more for dusting
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter, room temperature, 2 sticks
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
- ICING:
- 1 1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Food coloring

Step 1
Combine flour and salt. Set dry mixture aside.
Cream butter and sugar at medium speed. Beat in egg and vanilla.
Stir dry mixture into wet ingredients either by hand or with a mixer.
Cover dough with plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes. I make ahead and chill overnight so the dough will be ready for the kids when they come over.
Preheat oven 350°F.
On floured surface Roll out dough to 1/4" thickness and cut with floured cookie cutter(s).
Place cookies on greased or parchment lined cookie sheet & bake for 8 - 9 minutes, until edges are just starting to brown. Transfer to rack to cool.
DECORATE:
Sift confectioners sugar into a bowl and add milk. Stir until smooth.
Divide into separate bowls and color as desired.
Spread icing onto cooled cookies and add any decorations you want.
