Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup toovar dal
  • 3/4 cup wheat flour
  • 2 tbsp gram flour
  • 3/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 3/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp jaggery grated
  • 1 tbsp peanuts
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 pinches asafoetida
  • 4 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 4 curry leaves
  • 3 kokum
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Water as required
  • Salt to taste

Preparation

Step 1

1. Wash & soak toovar dal in 2 cups of water for half an hour.

2. Mix whole wheat flour & gram flour.

3. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, asafoetida, oil &
sufficient water to knead into a hard dough.

4. Boil dal with 2 cups of water. Add peanuts & remaining turmeric powder
to dal when it is half done.

5. Roll out thin rotis of dough & cut into desired shape.

6. Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, garlic &
curry leaves.

7. Add this to the dal.

8. Add 4 cups of water, kokum to dal. When it starts boiling, add jaggery.

9. When jaggery has dissolved, add dough strips & allow to cook, stirring
occasionally so that dough does not stick to the bottom of pan. Cook it
for 10-12 mins.

10. Add salt, garnished with chopped coriander leaves & serve hot.
