Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup crisco
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tbls. cocoa
- 2 oz. red coloring
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tbl. vinegar

Preparation
Step 1
Cream Crisco, sugar, eggs. Make paste of cocoa and red coloring. Add to egg mixture.
Mix salt and vanilla with buttermilk and add alternately with flour. Mix soda and vinagar and fold in. DO NOT BEAT.
Bake in 3 9in. pans for 30 min. at 350.
Icing
Add 1 cup sweet milk to 5 tbls flour. Cook to thick paste and let cool completely. Cream 1 cup butter, 1 cup sugar and add to cool paste. Add 1 tsp. vanilla and beat until it looks like whipped cream.
Spread between layers and on top of cool cake.
