Ingredients

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Flour for dusting
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 oz package semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

Line 2 cookie sheets with foil; coat foil with nonstick cooking spray, then lightly dust with flour.

In a large bowl, beat egg whites with an electric mixer until foamy. Add cream of tartar and beat until soft peaks form.

Mix in sugar, one tablespoon at a time, and add salt and vanilla extract.

Sift cocoa powder over mixture.

With a rubber spatula, fold in chocolate chips and nuts.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto prepared foil.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until crisp.

Let cool on cookie sheets for 2 minutes.

Transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
