Are you an avid gardener? Or like to work on cars or other mechanics? This is a great way to clean your hands, get them back in shape with your own homemade cleaner.

Ingredients

  • Pretreatment:
  • Avon's silicone glove lotion
  • Cleanser:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Couple of squirts of lemon or lime juice or a few drops of the Essential Oil of your choice
  • Optional additive:
  • (Make it a little gentler by adding a 1/4 cup oatmeal and increase the oil or juice to still obtain the right texture
  • Rinse:
  • Clean water

Preparation

Step 1

Prior to beginning your automotive project or putting on your gardening gloves generously coat your hands with Avon's silicone glove lotion. Which as advertised really does help prevent grease and grime from getting into the cracks and crevices of your hands without leaving a greasy perfumed base all over your hands. It also helps protect any cuts, nicks, and or scrapes you already have on your hands. Especially important if your working with chemicals (like fertilizers) you don't want it absorbed into your skin.

Mix together the sugar and oil to a texture you like, it should be gritty. Add a few drops of lemon juice, lime juice or other preferred essential oil of your choice. Put it in an air tight container until needed. (I keep mine in the drawer of my planting table)

After you remove your gloves (I usually take mine off within the first half an hour as I always end up getting them muddy!) and are ready to wash the grease, oil or garden grime off your hands, take a dollop of the cleaner and rub well into your hands and under your finger nails. Rub vigorously into the hands paying particular attention to extra dirty areas.

Rinse well with warm water.

Leaves your hands cleaned and moisturized!

As an added bonus I find the small scratches, nicks, abrasions, and cuts I get heal much faster than if I just use soap and water to clean up, although it does sting a bit!
