Crunchy Caramel Apple Pie 1 Picture

Ingredients

  • Pastry for Single Crust
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 6 medium apples peeled and sliced
  • Crumb Topping
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup caramel ice cream topping

Preparation

Step 1

Line a 9 inch pie plate with pastry. Brush egg white on bottom to keep crust flaky.
Preheat oven to 375F. Stir together sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt and apples in a large bowl. Transfer to pie crust.
Crumb topping: Stir together 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup flour, and 1/2 cup quick rolled oats. Using pastry blender cut in 1/2 cup of butter until crumbly.
Sprinkle topping over apple mixture. To prevent over browning, cover edge of pie with tinfoil for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 30 minutes until top is golden. Remove from oven and sprinkle with pecans and drizzle caramel sauce on top.
Serve with ice cream. Serves 8.
