- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/4 cups cocoa
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 cup sour milk (or fresh milk with 1 Tbsp. vinegar added)
- 1 cup hot water

Preparation
Step 1
Cream butter and sugar; beat in eggs.
Step 2
Sift dry ingredients and add to batter alternately with milk.
Step 3
Mix in hot water. Batter will be runny. Bake at 350° for 1-1.5 hr.
This is moist enough to eat as is or it can be iced/filled with chocolate buttercream frosting. If using 2 small layer pans, reduce cooking time accordingly.
