Cheddar-Thyme Biscuits with Maple-Glazed Canadian Bacon

Ingredients

  • 4 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup butter, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups finely grated sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
  • Maple-Glazed Canadian Bacon (recipe follows)

  • Makes 1 dozen
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 12 slices Canadian bacon
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 425°. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside.

2. Place flour in a medium bowl. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Add cheese and thyme; stir to combine well. Add half-and-half, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.

3. Evenly divide batter into 12 biscuits on prepared baking sheets, 2 inches apart. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve with Maple-Glazed Canadian Bacon.


Maple-Glazed Canadian Bacon

1. Preheat oven to 400°. Line a rimmed baking sheet with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Place a wire cooling rack on top of baking sheet.

2. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, garlic powder, and red pepper. Brush both sides of Canadian bacon with maple syrup, and place on rack. Sprinkle brown sugar mixture on top of Canadian bacon slices. Bake for 15 minutes.
