Ingredients

  • 1 cucumber
  • pickled ginger
  • wasabi paste
  • 1 clove garlic per 1/4 cup olive oil
  • shrimp, peeled and deveined

Adapted from blog.taiyyaba.com

Preparation

Step 1

1. Smash the garlic clove or cut it into chunks and simmer it with about a quarter cup of olive oil. Let it simmer for a little while so that the garlic flavor comes out into the oil. Once the oil is cool, dip the shrimp into it. (You could just skip this step and put garlic powder on the shrimp. I think you could also marinate them in some soy sauce if you wanted to.)

2. Grill the shrimp a minute or so on each side until they’re bright pink. Drain on paper towel while you do the rest.

3. Slice the cucumber into rounds.

4. Put a few pieces of pickled ginger onto the cucumber.

5. Put a shrimp on top.

6. Put a dot of wasabi paste into the little spot in the center where the shrimp is curled up

7. Eat! Sprinkle with toasted seseme seeds if you have any and serve with extra wasabi, or even some reduced soy sauce drizzled on top.
