Ingredients
- CRUST:
- 3 Cups Flour
- 1 Cup Shortening
- 1 Egg Beaten
- 1/3 Cup Water
- 1 TBS. Vinegar
- 1 tsp. Salt
- FILLING:
- 10-12 Apples (I use Granny Smith)
- 3/4 to 1 Cup Sugar depending on the tartness of the apples
- 1/2 Cup of Flour
- 1 tsp Apple Pie Seasoning
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- GLAZE:
- 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
- 2 TBS. Soft Butter
- 2-4 TBS. Milk (Add slowly, a little at a time)
- 1/2 tsp. Maple Flavoring
Preparation
Step 1
CRUST:
Put the flour and shortening in a large bowl and cut with a pastry cutter. Add the salt. In a cup beat the egg, add the water and vinegar. Pour the liquid mixture over the flour and mix together with your hands.
Divide the dough into 2 pieces, roll out on a floured surface to fit a
11x17 deep pan. Put one of the rolled out pieces in the bottom of the pan. Set Aside.
FILLING:
Peel and slice the apples as you would for an apple pie, add the sugar, flour, apple pie seasoning and cinnamon. Mix together then put on top of the dough in the pan.
Roll out the 2nd piece of dough and put on top. Fold the edges like you would a pie. Bake @ 350* for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
While the apple squares are baking mix the glaze together. Start with the powdered sugar and butter, slowly add the milk one TBS. at a time. You don't want it too soupy. Add the flavoring.
When the squares come out of the oven drizzle the glaze over the top.
