Ingredients

  • 5-6 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2/3 C flour
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1 C firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/8 tsp mace (or nutmeg)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 C butter (at room temperature)

Preparation

Step 1

1. Peel, core and slice the apples thin

2. Put the sliced apples in a bowl, sprinkle with lemon juice and sugar – stir well

3. Place the mixture into a pie plate

4. Mix everything else except the butter in a bowl

5. Use a knife and fork to slice the butter into the mixture (you will see clumps)

6. Pour the mixture over the apples and pat down as evenly as possible

7. Bake uncovered at 350° for 45 minutes or until the apples are soft
* place tin foil under the pie plate to catch and drippings

8. To reheat, warm at 250° for 15 minutes or so
