"Stix and Seeds" Wheat Bread

By

A delicious whole wheat bread made easy in the bread machine. We love the hearty taste and texture from the added sunflower seeds and/or grain cereal (crunchy hippy bits affectionately know as "stix and weeds" in my house) My husband gave me a flour mill as a gift, I LOVE IT! I can now mill my own fresh whole wheat flour. SOOOO good. Makes me sound like an over-achiever, BUT I am NOT. Just lucky. An electric mill is no more complicated than a giant coffee grinder! Whole wheat goes in, out pops the freshest, nuttiest, healthiest flour! So tasty and much better for you! You can use store bought whole wheat flour with a good result too. Adding the vital gluten is important to make the loaf rise higher, you can omit it.. but the loaf is much more dense. Thanks honey! This bread is YUMMY! Can be made vegan.

Ingredients

  • for a 2lb loaf
  • 1 cup Almond milk, OR Buttermilk OR any kind of milk you like
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2 TBS olive oil or butter
  • 2 TBS. good desert honey
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup sunflower seeds OR 7 grain cereal, Or mix the two! Be creative!
  • 3 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 TBS vital wheat gluten
  • 2 1/2 tsp active dry yeast (1 package)

Preparation

Step 1

Place the ingredients into your bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer. Mine calls for liquids first followed by dry. Yeast last. I make a little indent in the flour to add the yeast so it doesnt get wet and all excited too soon. Don't know if this matters.. but I do it this way anyways!

Bake on whole wheat setting

Enjoy!
