Ingredients
- 1/2 Crisco
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cocoa
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 ounces red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup flour
- dash salt
- 1/2 cup Crisco
- 1 stick oleo
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 can Angel Flake coconut

Step 1
Cake: Cream Crisco and sugar and add eggs. Sift 3 times the flour, salt, and cocoa. Combine dry ingredients with sugar and eggs and add vanilla, buttermilk, and food coloring. Beat all ingredients well together. Fold in baking soda dissolved in vinegar. Bake in 2 layers at 350 F for 30 to 35 minutes.
Frosting: Cook milk, flour, and salt over low flame to a pudding stage. Remove from heat and cool. Cream together Crisco, oleo, and sugar then add vanilla. Add mixture to pudding. Beat until smooth.
Frost 2 layer cake with frosting and sprinkle fresh coconut over frosting.
Keep in refrigerator.
