Crock Pot Pizza

I was amazed at how well this turned out. Best thing to ever come out of my crock! Try this kid-friendly recipe for yourself!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups packaged Bisquick baking mix (I used Wal-Mart's Great Value brand)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 8 ounces jarred pizza sauce or pasta sauce (I used about half a 14oz jar of Ragu pizza sauce)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, or more as desired
  • Pizza toppings of choice (pre-cook any raw meats) (I browned about 1/4 lb. lean ground beef seasoned with a little salt and pepper)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Pinches of dried Italian seasoning
  • Dash of garlic salt
  • 2 -3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese, divided (green can kind)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes, optional

Preparation

Step 1

Get all your ingredients out and brown any raw meats you may be using; set aside. Remove cover from slow cooker and preheat on HIGH setting.

Meanwhile, stir together the baking mix, 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese, little dash of garlic salt, and 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning; add just enough water to make a stiff, sticky dough, about 1/2 cup.

Add the olive oil to the slow cooker and smear around with the back of a spoon to completely coat bottom. Cover the bottom of the slow cooker evenly with some of the pizza sauce, maybe a fourth of it. Drop little balls of the dough onto the top of the sauce. (I was concerned that the pizza would be too doughy, so I used two forks to pick up about a tablespoon at a time then stretched it out a little flatter, worked out good.)

When all the dough has been dropped, cover it with the remaining pizza sauce (not the entire jar unless you like it extra saucy/gooey). Cover the sauce with mozzarella, then a light sprinkle of Italian seasoning, then a light shake of Parmesan. Top with any previously browned meats and veggies of choice. Sprinkle with a few red pepper flakes, if desired. (I only used the browned hamburger, cheeses, and crushed red peppers)

Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into one of the dough balls comes out clean. Serve immediately.
