Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seeds
  • 1/2 cup seedless raisins
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Step 1

Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar together. Add caraway seeds and raisins. Make a whole in the middle of the bowl and pour the buttermilk into it and then stir in the buttermilk to make a soft dough.

Flour hands and knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about one minute.

Shape the dough into a ball and place it into an 8 inch greased and floured cake pan. Pat the top lightly with flour and then cut a small cross into the top.

Bake in a heated 350 degree oven for 40 minutes. Bread should have a hollow sound when you tap it. For plain bread omit the caraway seeds and raisins.

Cool the bread on a wire rack.

NOTE:

I usually double the recipe and make two loaves as the loaves are small.
