Ingredients
- 6 apples peeled and sliced
- 1 TBSP flour
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- Pinch allspice
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 TBSP butter cut into pieces
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Mix dry ingredients and add apples and vanilla.
Pour into crust, dot the filling with 1 T butter cut into small pieces (this will help prevent the crust from rising and leaving a large cavern between the top crust and the filling).
Place and crimp the top crust.
For a golden crust, brush on an egg wash (1 egg mixed with
2T water—will be enough for 2-3 pie crusts) then sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
Bake at 425 for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 and bake for 45-50 minutes.
