Ingredients

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Almond Extract
  • 3 Eggs, room temperature
  • Chopped Nuts
  • Powdered Sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Cut 1/2 cup butter in 1 cup flour with a pastry cutter.

Add 2 tbsp water. Mix with a fork. Divide in half.

Pat dough on lightly floured board into 2 strips measuring 12 x 3.

Place dough on cookie sheet, slightly apart from each other. Set aside.

In a sauce pan combine 1 cup water and 1/2 cup butter. Bring to a boil.

Add almond and remove from heat.

Stir in the rest of the flour.

When mixture is smooth and thick, add eggs, one at a time. Beat well after each egg.

Divide mixture in half. Spread on strips of dough.

Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until nicely browned.

Remove from oven.

2 variations:
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and then the nuts.

Mix a little milk into powdered sugar and stir until of drizzling consistency. Drizzle lightly over both pastries.

Immediately following, sprinkle with slivered almonds so that when the drizzle dries, the nuts don't fall off.
