Affogato shakes (coffee shake)
By Karen_W
The original affogato is vanilla ice cream "drowned" in hot espresso coffee with liqueur. It's even more delicious served icy cold as a shake, with everything whizzed up together. A great ending to any Italian dinner. I serve it in espresso cups with a piece of biscotti on the side!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup ground espresso coffee
- 3 scoops good quality vanilla ice cream, slightly softened, plus extra to serve
- 3 tablespoons Nocello or Frangelico (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
Make the coffee in a French press with 1 1/4 cups boiling water, then chill in the fridge. Chill 4 small glasses as well.
Combine the chilled coffee and ice cream (and alcohol, if using) in a blender and whiz until smooth and frothy. Pour the shake into glasses and serve each with a small extra scoop of ice cream.
Recipe doubles easily.
Nocello ia a walnut liqueur, Frangelico is a hazelnut liquer. I prefer Frangelico.
