- FROSTING:
- 8 egg whites
- 1 cup butter or Crisco
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup milk or water
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

- 8 egg yolks
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup nuts
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 cups raisins

Step 1
Cream butter and 1 scant cup of sugar; cream well. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt; add alternately with milk and vanilla. Add 1 cup sugar to egg whites and let stand awhile. Beat stiff. Fold into mixture.

Bake at 350deg for about 25 minutes. Makes 3 large or 4 small layers.

FROSTING:
Mix; cook in double boiler. Boil until it begins to thicken. Remove from heat and spread between layers.
