Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup cocoa dissolved in 1/3 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 3/4 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350deg F. Grease and flour two 9-inch pans.

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add beaten eggs. Beat well. Blend in cocoa dissolved in hot water.

Dissolve soda in milk. Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Add vanilla. Mix very well. Batter will seem thin.

Pour into prepared pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes.
