Ingredients

  • 8 ounces bulk Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 15 ounce can pizza sauce
  • 1 cup thinly sliced cooked turkey pepperoni or miniature pepperoni slices, or chopped Canadian-style bacon
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh portobello or cremini mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped green sweet pepper (1 small)
  • 1/4 cup sliced pitted ripe olives
  • 3/4 cup shredded four-cheese pizza cheese (3 ounces)
  • Pita chips

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium skillet cook sausage, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat until sausage is brown, using a wooden spoon to break up meat as it cooks. Drain off fat.

Stir in pizza sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, sweet pepper, and olives. Transfer pepperoni mixture to a 1-1/2-quart slow cooker. Sprinkle pepperoni mixture with cheese.

Cover and cook on low-heat setting for about 4 hours or on high-heat setting for about 2 hours or until bubbly.

Serve immediately or keep warm, covered, on warm-heat or low-heat setting for up to 2 hours. Serve with Pita Chips and, if desired, additional cheese.
