Ingredients

  • 1 c Indian Head yellow stone ground cornmeal
  • 1 c flour
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 6 T melted unsalted butter
  • 1 slightly beaten egg

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 9 inch square baking pan with unsalted butter.

Stir dry ingredients together. Combine buttermilk, butter and egg and mix gently. Add to dry ingredients. Pour batter into prepared pan and set in middle rack of oven. Bake for about 17 minutes. Cornbread is done when edges are slightly brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Don't overbake otherwise it will be dried out. Cut into 3 inch squares to serve.
