No Bake Peanut Butter and Carob Dog Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cup crunchy peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup ground carob (Several brands make a toasted carob powder.)
  • 4 cups oats (quick oats or instant oats)
  • DO NOT substitute chocolate for the carob in this recipe. Carob is safe for dogs and is not at all harmful when given as a treat in moderation. There is no caffeine or theobromine in carob both of which are toxic to dogs!

Preparation

Step 1

Thoroughly grease a baking pan.
Over medium heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat.
Whisk in the peanut butter and milk, mixing until completely combined. Stir in the carob and oats.
Spread the mixture into the greased baking pan (grease a spatula for easier spreading) and allow to cool.
After the bars have cooled completely, cut into squares or other shapes.

Some dogs do get upset stomachs from milk products while others are able to tolerate the occasional treat with no adverse effects. You know your dog best and what they are able to tolerate. If in doubt you can substitute whole milk for goat milk which is easier for a dog to digest. No matter what you ultimately decide please be sure to give these or any treats in moderation.
