Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1 small onion, sliced thin
  • 2 pounds cubed steak (4 patties)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices sourdough bread or 4 buns
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons mustard

Step 1

1. Coat grill rack with nonstick cooking spray. Preheat grill to medium-high (350°F to 400°F).
2. In medium skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of the butter and 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft and light golden brown, 5 to 8 minutes. Set aside to cool.
3. Brush steak patties with remaining oil and season with garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Grill one side of steak patties 5 minutes. Turn over and top with cheese. Grill 5 minutes more.
4. Meanwhile, spread remaining butter on bread, and toast bread on grill.
5. Spread mayonnaise and mustard evenly on toasted bread. Place onions and 1 steak patty on each of 4 toasted bread slices; top with remain bread slices.
