Ingredients

  • Meat filling:
  • 1 lb. round steak
  • 6 med. potatoes, peeled or not - whatever your family prefers
  • 1 sm. to med. onion
  • Cut the steak and potatoes into very small cubes. Dice the onion and toss with the potatoes and steak. Salt and Pepper to taste and set aside.
  • Crust:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 11/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup solid Crisco
  • 1/2 cup milk & 1/2 cup water combined to make 1 cup liquid

DIRECTIONS:
Combine dry ingredients and cut in shortening as for a pie crust. Add enough liquid to make a good pie dough consistency.
Cut the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each into a circle. Put 1/6th of the meat mixture in the center of the dough round and dot the meat with approx. 1 tsp. of butter. Fold the dough over the meat mixture to make a turnover or half moon shaped type pie. Roll the edges up and pinch to seal and complete pastry. Cut 3 slits in the top of each pie to allow stem to vent. Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour until nicely browned.
