Ingredients
- 2 lbs. green apples
- 2 sheets of pastry pie crust
- 3/4 - 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. grated lemon peel
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- Milk for topping
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Peel and core apples, slice about 1/2" thick to make 6-7 cups sliced. Line 9" pie pan with first sheet of pastry. In a medium bowl, combine sugar, nutmeg, salt, lemon, and cinnamon. Place 1/2 of apple slices in the bottom of the pan, sprinkle with 1/2 sugar mixture and repeat with second half of apples and sugar. Dot top of apples with butter. Cut slits in the second pie crust and place over the apples; trim edges and flute or seal with a fork. Brush top crust with milk and bake for 40 min or until apples are tender.
