Ingredients

  • Base
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 cups brown sugar packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Topping
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Salt
  • 1 1/2 cups slivered almonds
  • 2 oz semi-sweet or bitter sweet chocolate

Preparation

Step 1

Base
Preheat over to 350. Line a 13x9 inch baking dish with parchment. In a small bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. In a medium bowl, beat together sugar and eggs until combined. Beat in butter and vanilla. Fold in flour mixture and combine. Scrape batter into pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Topping
In a small saucepan, heat all ingredients except almonds and chocolate until melted Bring to a boil and boil gently for 4 minutes. Pour over base. Cover with almonds. Return to oven for 15 min. Let cool completely in pan.
Melt chocolate over simmering water. Drizzle over almonds. Set aside until chocolate sets and then cut into squares.
