Ingredients

  • 2 cups Packed Brown Sugar
  • 5 oz. Evaporated Milk (Pet or Carnation)
  • 1/2 Pound Butter
  • 2 Cups Powdered Sugar (Confectioners')
  • 1 Cup Walnuts
  • 1/2 Tsp. Vanilla
  • 1/2 Tsp Maple Flavoring
  • 1/2 Tsp Walnut Flavoring (if desired)

Preparation

Step 1

Butter a 9x13 inch pan and set aside. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter and milk. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat very slightly and boil 10 minutes while stirring constantly. Do not leave longer.
Remove from heat and add powdered sugar, vanilla, maple and walnut flavoring if using. Mix thoroughly with hand mixer set on medium untill thick and glossy. This only takes a couple of minutes. Fold in the walnuts and pour into the prepared pan. Refrigerate until set.

Tip: If you line the pan with foil and then butter the foil it can make it easier to remove from the pan.

Note: This recipe will double easily. It can be frozen. Just be careful and wrap it really well.
