Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef, venison or turkey
  • 1 lg onion, chopped
  • 4 tbs tomato paste
  • 1 c. beef broth
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 c. macaroni
  • 2 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 3 tbs flour
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tomatoes, sliced
  • 4 tbs bread crumbs
  • Salt & pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Cook the beef and onion in pan until lightly browned. Stir in the tomato paste, broth and cinnamon. Season with salt. Cover and simmer 5 minutes.

Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water until tender, drain. Layer with the meat mixture in a wide ovenproof dish.

Melt butter in sauce pan, add flour, cook 1 minute. Stir in milk, whisk over medium heat until thickened. Add the nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste.

Pour sauce over pasta and meat. Arrange tomato slices on top and sprinkle with bread crumbs.

Bake 30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling. Serve hot.
