Ingredients

  • Dumplings:
  • 2 cups Cake Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup Shortening
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup Milk
  • 6 to 8 Apples
  • Sugar Mixture:
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 6 tbsp Butter
  • Syrup:
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup White Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Butter

Preparation

Step 1

Dumplings:
Mix and sift dry ingredients. Work shortening in lightly.

Make a hole in flour and add milk gradually while mixing lightly. Knead lightly into a ball and roll into a rectangular piece, about 1/4" thick, cut into 6 or 8 pieces.

Peel and core apples, put a little butter on each piece of dough. Place apple on butter and fill center of apple with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Bring up corners of dough over apples.

Syrup:
Place sugars, water and butter in saucepan. Bring to a boil and pour over dumplings.

Bake in 375 oven for 60 minutes or until apples are tender.
