  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Melt 1/4 cup butter in sauce pan over low heat. Blend in flour. Gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir the mixture until it thickens and comes to a boil.

Cool to room temperature. Add vanilla.

Cream remaining butter with sugar until fluffy. Gradually add milk mixture, beating until frosting is fluffy and of spreading consistency, about 5 minutes.

Frosts top and sides of a 9" double layer cake.

Note: In hot weather, chill frosting before spreading on cake.
