  • 2-3 lb round steak 1” thick
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1-2 tbs butter
  • 2-3 tbs oil
  • 3 tbs finely chopped onion
  • Brown sugar
  • Catsup
  • Dried basil leaves
  • 1 tbs butter, cut up
  • 1/2 c. beef broth

Step 1

Heat crock pot. Trim meat; cut into serving sized pieces. Pound to ½ -inch thick with meat mallet. Mix flour, salt and pepper in bowl. Dip steaks in flour mixture, turning to coat. In large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in 2 tablespoons of oil over medium high heat. Add coated steaks; brown on both sides. Arrange steaks in crock pot. Sprinkle with onions. Top each steak with 1 tsp packed brown sugar and 1 teaspoon catsup. Sprinkle lightly with basil. Dot with butter. Add broth to drippings in skillet. Cook over medium heat for about a minute, stirring to loosen any browned bits. Add to crock pot. Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low 6-8 hours.
